Data Science Intern

Role overview

A year-long internship supports a data science and machine learning team working with the large datasets generated by a video and ad delivery platform. The role centers on analyzing, validating, and improving the quality of streaming-industry data, with the chance to contribute directly to downstream data products and ML workflows.

Responsibilities

- Investigate anomalies in production datasets, identify root causes, and implement automated validations to catch similar issues in the future. - Design and apply normalization techniques, measuring accuracy and iterating until the outputs meet quality thresholds. - Improve the reliability and accuracy of derived datasets and downstream data products consumed by analytics and modeling teams. - Partner with senior engineers and data scientists to explore datasets, prototype approaches, and document findings.

Requirements

- Current or recent study in Data Science, AI/ML, Statistics, Physics, Mathematics, or Computer Science; a PhD or MSc is preferred, though a strong BSc with notable projects is welcome. - Proficiency in Python and SQL, with the ability to write clean, maintainable analytical code (non-agentic development experience is required). - Working knowledge of applied statistics, probability, machine learning fundamentals, and experiment design or causal reasoning. - Experience with large-scale data analysis, data quality and anomaly detection, and graph algorithms or network analysis. - Familiarity with distributed data platforms such as Snowflake or Databricks, and comfort with AI-assisted development tools.

Nice to have

- Research experience moving from idea to prototype to validated result, including evaluating models beyond headline metrics. - Strength in translating ambiguous problems into mathematical or statistical formulations, with intuition for uncertainty, bias, and variance. - Advanced debugging skills, rapid hypothesis testing, and comfort with messy or contradictory data. - Personal traits such as intellectual curiosity, ownership, independent thinking, and willingness to dig into unusual findings until they make sense.
