Job details
About this role
Role overview Evolve the networking and service infrastructure behind a large cloud platform, including a transition from a custom routing layer toward a standard service mesh. The systems handle very high traffic and support services used by stores around the world, so the role calls for careful work on performance, resilience, and safe infrastructure change.
Responsibilities - Guide the architectural transition from a custom router to a modern service mesh, with continuity and reliability as key constraints. - Design, build, and maintain low-latency network components that handle millions of requests per second. - Keep ingress, DNS, service mesh, and content delivery services available and resilient. - Develop scalable backend services and infrastructure tools using strong service design practices. - Use AI tools for development, refactoring, testing, or documentation where appropriate, applying judgment in critical infrastructure. - Mentor engineers, document technical decisions for varied audiences, and contribute to hiring.
Requirements - Deep, hands-on experience operating and evolving Kubernetes infrastructure. - Experience designing and running mission-critical, high-throughput systems, including troubleshooting under pressure. - Strong knowledge of distributed systems, service design, networking fundamentals, and microservice communication. - Comfort working with complex legacy systems while developing their successors. - Clear communication of technical trade-offs across engineering teams and with non-technical partners. - Advanced English and a considered approach to using AI in engineering work.
Nice to have - Experience with .NET, particularly useful for understanding and refactoring an existing router. - Familiarity with service mesh technologies such as Istio or Envoy.
Benefits and work setup The role is described as remote-first with flexible scheduling and home-office support. Listed benefits include health, dental, and life coverage; profit-sharing and potential equity; professional development and language learning support; meal assistance; extended parental leave; childcare assistance; and wellness programming.
