Mechanical Engineer - Aerospace

Role overview

A hybrid Mechanical Engineer role focused on designing and developing mechanical hardware for aerospace, defense, and solid rocket propulsion applications. The work spans concept through production, covering detailed design, analysis, integration, qualification testing, and ongoing manufacturing support for mission-critical systems. The position reports into an engineering organization and partners closely with cross-functional teams across propulsion, systems, quality, and program management.

Responsibilities

- Design and develop mechanical components, assemblies, structures, tooling, and propulsion-related hardware from concept through production, applying aerospace and defense engineering standards. - Produce 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, specifications, bills of materials, and supporting technical documentation for solid rocket motor and aerospace hardware. - Perform and/or support mechanical analyses including structural, thermal, stress, fatigue, fracture, tolerance, vibration, and load-path assessments. - Support integration, qualification, acceptance, and environmental testing; review test data and contribute to root-cause investigations and corrective actions. - Collaborate with propulsion, systems, manufacturing, quality, materials, test, configuration management, and program teams to ensure designs are producible, testable, and compliant. - Participate in requirements reviews, preliminary and critical design reviews, manufacturing readiness activities, failure reviews, and configuration-controlled change processes. - Resolve production issues, evaluate nonconformances, and implement design improvements while balancing safety, quality, cost, and schedule.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field with 4+ years of relevant experience; or Master's with 2+ years; or 8+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree. - 4–10 years of professional experience in mechanical, aerospace, defense, propulsion, manufacturing, or a closely related engineering discipline. - Demonstrated experience designing mechanical hardware, structures, components, assemblies, tooling, or test equipment in a complex engineering environment. - Proficiency with 3D CAD modeling, engineering drawings, GD&T, tolerance analysis, and engineering documentation. - Working knowledge of structural mechanics, materials, thermal effects, loads, interfaces, and design-for-manufacturability. - Ability to interpret and develop technical requirements and communicate recommendations to cross-functional teams; experience supporting production troubleshooting in high-reliability environments is helpful.
