Remote job
YouTube Video Editor & Motion Designer
Job details
About this role
Role overview A long-form video editing role on a YouTube channel that produces educational and explainer content for creators. The editor partners with hosts and producers to shape scripted recordings into engaging 10–20 minute videos, blending narrative judgment with motion graphics that make complex ideas easier to follow.
Responsibilities - Build motion graphics, diagrams, and visual examples that fill gaps in the spoken explanation and help viewers follow the topic. - Choose the strongest takes, tighten rambling sections, and pace the edit so the story moves without rushing the explanation. - Add humor, memes, music, sound design, and B-roll where it fits the host and subject matter. - Take creative ownership of edits, propose improvements, and flag spots that need input from the host or producer. - Self-review first cuts, catch mistakes, and confirm visuals support the explanation before submitting for feedback. - Hit a roughly three-day turnaround per video, with timing agreed per project based on the visual work required. - Experiment with new tools and techniques, build reusable graphics, and share approaches that help the team move faster without lowering quality.
Requirements - Portfolio of long-form videos personally edited, including motion graphics work, with notes on your creative choices. - Strong skills in After Effects or a comparable motion graphics tool. - Proficiency in Premiere Pro, DaVinci Resolve, Final Cut Pro, or similar software. - Ability to deliver a 10–20 minute edit on roughly a three-day cycle. - Organized project files, footage, and assets backed up so another editor can pick them up if needed. - Sufficient overlap with US working hours to collaborate with the team.
Nice to have - Experience editing for educational or explainer-style YouTube channels. - A feel for when a clear visual can replace a long explanation, and when an example should breathe.
