Engineering Manager, App Primitives

Role overview

Lead an engineering team that owns the shared product primitives supporting a SaaS trust and security platform. The platform layer (comments, notifications, event logs, feature flagging, and task management) is used by every other product team, so the role sits at the intersection of technical architecture and team development with real authority to set direction. This is a remote role accountable for growing a high-performing platform team and unlocking velocity across the wider engineering organization.

Responsibilities

- Lead and grow a team of senior engineers and technical leads, owning hiring, team health, delivery, and ongoing development - Set the strategy and roadmap for shared primitives: comments infrastructure, notifications platform, event log, feature flag system, and task management - Define and steward the interface model between platform systems and product teams so dependent teams can ship on shared infrastructure quickly and safely - Partner with product engineering leaders to surface developer needs, identify friction in shared systems, and prioritize platform investments - Set technical direction for a full-stack team working across data models, backend services, and UI primitives - Manage cross-team dependencies and stakeholder expectations across concurrent workstreams with a high degree of autonomy

Requirements

- 5+ years of engineering experience including at least 2 years managing engineering teams and developing senior engineers and tech leads - Experience leading platform, shared services, or product infrastructure teams whose output is consumed by other teams - Full-stack technical fluency with depth in backend systems, shared data models, and API design - Strong cross-functional collaborator who can define clear ownership boundaries and align product, design, and engineering leaders - Track record hiring senior engineers in a competitive market and building a strong team culture - Experience managing multi-team dependencies and delivering concurrent workstreams with limited oversight
