Role overview
On a fixed-term contract, own the test automation approach for a delivery team and help make its checks dependable as the product evolves. You’ll design and maintain a Playwright framework, cover web interfaces as well as APIs and services, and work with analysts, developers and a client to build quality into delivery. AI coding agents are part of the testing workflow, with careful review of generated work and opportunities to guide team practices.
Responsibilities
- Design, build and roll out Playwright automation frameworks using TypeScript or JavaScript, keeping growing test suites stable. - Automate checks for APIs and microservice-based systems as well as user interfaces. - Collaborate with analysts, developers and the client on behaviour-driven development in an Agile team. - Investigate flaky or intermittent failures to identify underlying causes. - Use AI agents to assist with test design, authoring and maintenance, and verify that generated tests provide meaningful coverage. - Help establish project practices for agent-assisted testing, including reusable instructions and review steps. - Coach colleagues, communicate quality risks and technical trade-offs, and extend coverage to mobile when needed.
Requirements
- At least five years in test automation, including at least two years using Playwright with TypeScript or JavaScript in production. - Strong knowledge of Playwright fixtures, locator strategies, auto-waiting, network interception and mocking, trace debugging and parallel execution. - Experience testing responsive and mobile web behavior across devices, viewports and browsers. - Experience designing automation framework architecture, rather than only adding tests to an existing framework. - API and microservices testing experience, including HTTP and network inspection tools. - CI/CD experience, practical BDD experience in an Agile team, and a working AI-assisted testing practice.
Nice to have
- Native iOS or Android automation, ideally using Appium with WebdriverIO; experience with another automation stack; or performance and cloud testing. - Experience coordinating multi-step AI agent workflows or contributing through mentoring, talks or technical writing.
