Role overview A hands-on backend engineering role is open on an email platform team that processes massive global message volumes, including peak traffic spikes well into the billions of messages per day. The position involves developing, deploying, and operating highly available distributed systems, modernizing backend services, optimizing Go-based microservices, and contributing to dual-cloud infrastructure spanning AWS and Azure.

Responsibilities - Architect and ship reliable, high-velocity features handling critical traffic with low end-to-end latency, partnering with product management and technical leadership to break complex requirements into iterative milestones - Drive rigorous code reviews and promote maintainable patterns in the Go codebase, ensuring high testing standards across unit, integration, and component testing - Manage and enhance cloud configurations across AWS and Azure using Infrastructure as Code, and standardize metrics, alerts, and distributed tracing across core data pipelines - Proactively identify technical debt, system bottlenecks, and single points of failure, balancing feature delivery with platform refactoring - Mentor junior engineers, lead technical sprint planning, and share expertise across distributed engineering teams

Requirements - 4+ years of professional software engineering experience building and operating resilient backend services at scale - Practical experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools to accelerate code generation, automate testing, and streamline debugging - Strong hands-on production experience writing clean, idiomatic, and highly concurrent Go, Java, or Python - Solid experience deploying production workloads in cloud environments, ideally with deep exposure to both AWS core services (EC2, S3, Aurora, DynamoDB) and Microsoft Azure equivalents (Virtual Machines, Blob Storage, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB) - Proficiency with Terraform for provision-level automation and environment parity - Strong theoretical and practical understanding of distributed datastores, caching layers, and messaging systems

Nice to have - Experience managing high-throughput applications running inside containerized infrastructure such as Docker or Kubernetes - Familiarity with database migration pathways, including transitions from traditional relational datastores to managed instances like AWS Aurora - Experience implementing OpenTelemetry or distributed tracing across decoupled microservice platforms - Direct experience handling constraints related to network topology, proxy layers, or mail transfer agent protocols
