Director of Engineering, Product

Role overview

A Director of Engineering, Product role reporting to the CTO and Co-Founder of an early-stage infrastructure company building programmable, trustless guardrails intended to make an autonomous, machine-driven economy safe to operate. The position owns the technical direction, architectural integrity, and people leadership of the Product Engineering organization, which spans key management, signing infrastructure, APIs, SDKs, and developer-facing surfaces.

Responsibilities

- Set the engineering strategy and technical vision for the Product Engineering organization, covering key management, APIs, transaction processing, and the infrastructure that makes security guarantees independently verifiable - Build, manage, and grow a high-performing engineering organization, including hiring and developing engineering managers and senior individual contributors - Partner with Product and Design leadership to translate customer and market signals into a clear technical roadmap, and identify emerging web3 technologies worth integrating - Provide architectural oversight for security-critical systems based on trusted execution environments and hardware security modules, along with the APIs, SDKs, and dashboards built on top - Define and evolve org structure, leveling, career paths, and engineering rituals such as planning, incident review, and on-call as the team scales - Drive recruitment, onboarding, and retention of senior engineering talent across the organization

Requirements

- Proven experience managing engineering managers or leading a multi-team engineering organization, not only an individual team - Deep understanding of modern application architectures and security-critical systems such as HSMs, TEEs, or key management, with the ability to lead detailed technical tradeoff discussions - Track record of shipping security-critical or developer-facing products (key management, signing infrastructure, APIs, or SDKs) at scale - Demonstrated ability to maintain a high bar on software quality and engineering process while moving quickly - Comfort with adversarial threat models and the realities of decentralized systems

Nice to have

- Prior experience in fast-paced crypto, web3, or fintech environments, especially with custody, key management, or HSM/enclave-based systems - Experience scaling an engineering organization through a significant growth stage such as a Series B to C transition - Active engagement with developments in the crypto ecosystem and an opinionated view on its trajectory
