Senior Engineer, Data Services
Job details
About this role
Role overview A senior engineering role on a Data Services team within a mission-driven financial software organization focused on consumer lending experiences. The position owns the reliability, scalability, and evolution of the company's event and data infrastructure, including a centralized event bus, streaming and change-data-capture pipelines feeding analytics platforms, and integration services that connect a modern platform with legacy systems during an ongoing migration. The team builds with AI as a first-class part of the workflow, operating LLM-backed services inside its own pipelines and shipping agent-readable repository context and skills.
Responsibilities - Drive complex engineering tickets end to end, from design and implementation through testing, production rollout, and long-term ownership, writing clean, well-tested, maintainable code. - Author and review Technical Design Documents and Architecture Decision Records, leading technical discussions and helping the team make well-documented trade-offs. - Build and operate the central event bus, including event routing, dead-letter handling, replay, validation and enrichment, schema stewardship, and connector jobs that land events into the analytics lakehouse. - Maintain Kafka and Debezium CDC pipelines, along with streaming transformation jobs serving downstream consumers. - Treat infrastructure as code with Terraform modules deployed across multiple environments, and steward shared event and API contracts. - Use AI coding agents as a primary workflow, maintaining repository context, skill files, and reusable workflows that improve team productivity. - Partner with data engineering, data science, and product teams to define data contracts, coordinate schema changes, and ensure upstream event quality.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience. - 5+ years of software or data engineering experience with demonstrated ownership of production systems. - Deep experience with event-driven architecture, including event buses, schema evolution, idempotency, dead-letter handling, and replay. - Hands-on experience with a managed event platform such as EventBridge, SNS/SQS, or Kinesis with a schema registry, plus solid multi-account AWS fundamentals across Lambda, IAM, S3, Glue Catalog, Athena, Firehose, and Iceberg. - Production-grade Go or TypeScript, with willingness to work in the JVM where legacy services live, plus Terraform at production scale. - Daily use of agentic coding tools, practical familiarity with MCP and LLM APIs, and grounded judgment about model tiers, token budgets, and infrastructure cost.
