Role overview A senior backend engineering role focused on building and maintaining data migration tooling, environment provisioning automation, and sandbox services that let customers test integrations end-to-end. The work supports customer onboarding and post-onboarding experiences on a modern card issuing and payments platform, with a strong emphasis on reliability, compliance, and developer velocity. It is a remote position open to candidates based in Ontario or British Columbia, Canada.
Responsibilities - Own and contribute to the migration data platform that moves customer data from external issuers into internal systems at scale. - Build and maintain environment provisioning automation, including orchestration flows that configure infrastructure, programs, and sandbox environments for new customers. - Support sandbox and simulation services so customers can test integrations, simulate payment network transactions, and validate setups before and after onboarding. - Work across workflow orchestration tooling such as Airflow and AWS Step Functions to stitch together multi-step, API-driven pipelines. - Contribute to a high-ownership engineering environment that adopts new technologies, leverages AI tooling for development and prototypes, and rotates across team focus areas on a quarterly cadence. - Participate in planning, on-call rotations, bug triage, metrics review, and process improvement, while helping maintain a secure, compliant product and a positive team community.
Requirements - 5+ years of experience as a backend engineer, plus a Bachelor's degree, or an advanced degree without the experience requirement; equivalent relevant experience accepted in lieu of a degree. - Hands-on experience developing in Java Spring Boot. - Cloud experience, with AWS strongly preferred. - Ability to understand existing designs and technology choices and make appropriate adjustments when needed. - Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with a willingness to share trade-offs and engage in constructive, empathetic feedback.
Nice to have - Experience in payments or FinTech. - Experience with ETL processes or large-scale data migration. - Familiarity with workflow orchestration tools such as Airflow or AWS Step Functions. - Exposure to data engineering tools such as Spark, Iceberg, or AWS Glue.
