Role overview
The Engineering Manager will lead the team building a brand-new proprietary trading platform designed by active traders for speed, control, and execution in performance-critical environments. This is a hands-on leadership role spanning hiring, technical architecture, and product delivery from the current build phase through launch and early iteration. The position is remote and reports to the CTO, partnering closely with Product, Design, and the founders.
Responsibilities
- Recruit, onboard, and grow a team of full-stack and backend engineers for a new product - Run regular 1:1s, set clear goals, and lead performance management, including calibration and difficult conversations - Partner with Product and Design to define and prioritize the platform roadmap pre- and post-launch - Guide architectural decisions for a real-time trading interface and its execution systems - Stay hands-on with code: review pull requests, weigh in on design docs, and unblock engineers on hard problems - Drive delivery through sprint planning, progress tracking, and scope adjustments in ambiguous conditions - Establish testing, code quality, and CI/CD standards for a young team and codebase - Own production reliability, observability, and incident response as launch approaches - Contribute to engineering standards and hiring practices at the broader organizational level
Requirements
- Prior experience managing or leading engineers, in addition to hands-on engineering experience - Full-stack or backend background with React, Next.js, or Vue on the frontend and Python, Node.js, C#, or Go on the backend - Experience with REST APIs and WebSocket-based, real-time services - Familiarity with relational or in-memory data stores such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, Redis, or MongoDB - Experience running production systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure with Docker and Kubernetes - Comfort building 0-to-1 in ambiguous or fast-changing product environments - Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate with non-technical stakeholders including founders and traders
Nice to have
- Background in fintech, trading, or crypto - Experience with real-time systems and event-driven architectures such as Kafka, NATS, or Pulsar - Familiarity with TimescaleDB or ClickHouse - Prior experience as an Engineering Manager on a pre-launch or early-stage product - Experience managing teams that use AI-assisted development tools day to day
