About this role
Role overview A senior technical leader is needed to drive infrastructure modernization across compute, storage, virtualization, Windows, Linux, and cloud environments through automation and Infrastructure-as-Code practices. The position blends hands-on coding with executive-level architectural discussions, helping client engineering teams modernize legacy frameworks and define forward-looking technology roadmaps. This is a remote consulting role with travel as needed.
Responsibilities - Lead the modernization of Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure platforms using automation, standardization, and Infrastructure-as-Code methods. - Audit, refactor, and modernize legacy automation frameworks, scripts, and deployment pipelines to improve scalability and operational efficiency. - Design and build automation solutions using PowerShell, Python, Ansible, Terraform, Harness, and CI/CD tooling. - Architect Windows Server lifecycle management, including deployment, configuration, patching, security hardening, and OS upgrades. - Facilitate architectural discussions with senior client stakeholders, translating business requirements into practical engineering plans. - Establish engineering standards, documentation practices, and operational best practices that reduce technical debt and raise platform reliability.
Requirements - Expert-level Windows Server engineering background, ideally spanning Windows Server 2019 and 2025. - Strong PowerShell development skills with experience building automation frameworks and pipelines. - Proficiency in Python for infrastructure automation and operational tooling. - Hands-on experience with Ansible, Terraform, Harness, and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies. - Experience designing and modernizing CI/CD and infrastructure deployment pipelines. - Solid understanding of Active Directory, Group Policy, SCCM/MECM, Windows CIS security baselines, and automated hardening. - Demonstrated ability to lead architecture reviews, technical workshops, and executive-level discussions with mixed technical and non-technical audiences. - Strong troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and consulting skills; able to manage multiple projects in dynamic settings.
Nice to have - Linux administration and automation experience. - Automation integration with VMware vSphere 8 and 9 for system deployment.
