About this role
Role overview A Staff Software Engineer is needed on the Android Systems team to build the foundational software stack that powers device management for a line of point-of-sale hardware. The role blends hands-on coding with cross-team technical leadership, shaping the next generation of backend services and system applications used to configure and manage devices in the field.
Responsibilities - Design and implement Kotlin backend services that improve device management workflows for customers - Lead the design and development of the next generation of software services and applications powering a seamless device configuration experience - Collaborate with product management, hardware, QA, and other software teams on the roadmap and long-term technical vision - Author technical requirements and detailed designs for the systems being built - Lead estimation sessions and use sound judgment to enable effective project planning - Diagnose performance bottlenecks and drive optimizations across the stack - Make solid technical decisions that prioritize software quality, security, and maintainability - Help set the standard for software quality by adopting modern test frameworks and practices
Requirements - 8+ years of experience designing and implementing robust backend services - Proficiency in a modern object-oriented programming language such as Java or Kotlin - Demonstrated technical leadership with the ability to drive cross-team alignment and influence across engineering, product, and business stakeholders - Experience with microservices architecture and containerization technologies for scalability and maintainability - Applied knowledge of backend application lifecycle best practices, including database, service, and API design - Experience developing single-page frontend applications using React - Excellent communication skills and ability to articulate complex technical concepts to diverse audiences - Familiarity with AI-augmented development workflows and tools
Nice to have - Proficiency with DynamoDB or PostgreSQL - Kotlin proficiency (or Java with willingness to learn) plus Kotlin-specific frameworks for backend development - Experience with monitoring tools to debug and resolve tough customer issues - Understanding of mobile device management (MDM) concepts and enterprise device management platforms
