Senior Software Engineer, Android

Role overview Build and evolve the Android systems platform that supports setup, security, updates, and ongoing management of point-of-sale devices. The role bridges device software, hardware, firmware, and cloud services, with responsibility for delivering features that work reliably across a deployed device fleet. You will lead projects from technical design through rollout and production support.

Responsibilities - Design and deliver Android system application features in Kotlin or Java, including device policies, initial setup, and app or firmware updates. - Write technical plans for work spanning device apps, cloud services, and hardware, and lead estimation and project planning. - Build background services and release them safely using staged rollouts, feature flags, and monitoring. - Coordinate Android application and OS upgrades with hardware and firmware partners. - Expand automated end-to-end testing on real devices and investigate complex production issues across the fleet. - Mentor engineers and collaborate with product, hardware, QA, and software teams on maintainable, secure solutions.

Requirements - At least six years of Android application development experience. - Proficiency in Kotlin or Java and familiarity with Android patterns and libraries such as Hilt, AndroidX, and Kotlin Coroutines. - Strong understanding of Android app and service lifecycles, background work, and inter-process communication. - Experience leading cross-functional projects from early planning through launch and production support. - Ability to debug issues across app, framework, and operating system layers using tools such as adb, logcat, and bug reports. - Clear technical writing and communication, customer empathy, and experience using AI tools during development.

Nice to have - Android device software experience involving offline operation, battery use, or background services. - Experience with the Android framework or automated testing on physical devices.
