Senior Android Engineer (Kotlin)

Role overview A senior-level Android engineering role centered on strengthening the test automation layer of an existing mobile application. The work focuses on expanding coverage across unit, integration, and UI tests while partnering on architecture, debugging, and overall product quality on a remote team.

Responsibilities - Design, develop, and maintain automated tests across unit, integration, and UI layers. - Identify gaps in current coverage and roll out strategies to close them. - Build and extend test infrastructure using modern Android testing libraries and mocking tools. - Debug mobile performance and reliability issues alongside feature work. - Participate in code reviews and promote best practices for testing and quality. - Continuously evaluate and improve testing processes, tools, and workflows.

Requirements - Strong professional experience with Kotlin and modern Android development. - Hands-on experience writing unit, integration, and UI tests for Android apps. - Familiarity with tools such as JUnit4, MockK, Robolectric, MockWebServer, AndroidX Room testing, Espresso, UI Automator, Test Orchestrator, and Jetpack Compose UI test APIs. - Experience debugging mobile performance and running test automation workflows. - Comfort working independently in a remote setting and proactively surfacing testing gaps. - Strong problem-solving and communication skills.

Nice to have - Contributions to large-scale or open-source Android applications. - Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and automated testing workflows. - Experience with Android architecture patterns such as MVVM or MVI. - Exposure to performance testing and profiling on Android. - Prior work in an agency or consultancy environment.
