Job details
About this role
Role overview Lead the teams building features and app experiences for a general-purpose AI assistant designed to run locally on users’ devices. You will turn product direction into reliable consumer software, balancing engineering leadership with product partnership and accounting for device limits such as model size, latency, memory, and battery use. The role is weighted toward engineering leadership, with a substantial product collaboration component.
Responsibilities - Guide feature and app teams day to day by unblocking work, reviewing designs and code, and supporting delivery. - Set expectations for performance, reliability, and clean API design. - Own technical designs and the interface between the application and AI core. - Coordinate with AI research and deep technology teams on model- and inference-related work. - Partner with product managers to scope roadmaps, challenge unrealistic plans, and identify practical alternatives. - Clarify team goals, mentor team leads, and adjust your involvement as teams gain ownership.
Requirements - Experience managing engineers or engineering leads who ship consumer products, ideally AI-powered applications. - Strong product judgment and ability to distinguish useful features from unnecessary complexity. - Practical understanding of applied AI and on-device constraints, including latency, memory, and battery. - Deep JavaScript and React experience. - Regular use of AI tools and curiosity about experimenting with models and capabilities. - Initiative, resilience, and ability to give and receive direct critique.
Nice to have Experience with local or on-device inference, LLM evaluation, cross-platform mobile or desktop apps, or open-source projects.
Benefits and work setup The role is described as fully remote, with a globally distributed team. It reports to the CTO and partners closely with product leadership; the work focuses on privacy-preserving, local AI experiences.
