Product Engineering Lead, Keet (100% Remote, Worldwide)

Role overview

A remote leadership role for a fully peer-to-peer messaging and video calling application built on a decentralized P2P stack with end-to-end encryption and no central servers. The role is roughly 70% engineering leadership and 30% product partnership, reporting to the CTO and shaping features designed to scale to a billion-user consumer audience.

Responsibilities

- Lead the API team (which extends the P2P core with feature-focused APIs) and the frontend team (which builds the React app), each with its own team lead. - Run engineering reviews and ensure the API team collaborates closely with the deeper protocol teams on code reviews, design, and engine-touching work. - Partner with product managers to translate vision and roadmap into scoped, buildable work, pushing back when scope and reality diverge. - Bring an engineering perspective to product decisions, identifying places where P2P enables capabilities centralized apps cannot offer. - Use AI tools and quick prototypes to validate ideas before committing engineering capacity. - Set clear team goals, mentor team leads, and grow the operating systems of the squads you oversee.

Requirements

- Track record managing engineers or engineering leads who ship consumer products, ideally in chat, calling, or social apps. - Strong product sense with the ability to distinguish valuable features from busywork. - Intuition for distributed and local-first systems; comfort with offline-first behavior and eventual consistency. - Deep proficiency in JavaScript and React. - Initiative, curiosity, resilience, and the ability to give and receive direct critique.

Nice to have

- Experience with local-first applications, CRDTs or sync engines, offline-capable mobile or desktop apps, or open-source contributions.
