Role overview
A Forward Deployed Engineer embeds directly with enterprise customers to architect and ship production systems on a global communications network spanning voice, messaging, AI, and wireless connectivity. The role sits at the intersection of hands-on engineering and customer success, taking solutions from whiteboard sketch through pilot, POC, and production go-live. Expect roughly 10–30% travel for on-site deployments, workshops, and escalations.
Responsibilities
- Embed with enterprise customers to map their communications workflows, AI use cases, and integration challenges - Build and deploy custom implementations including AI voice assistants, voice/messaging/fax/wireless APIs, and WebRTC integrations - Lead POCs, pilots, and production launches end-to-end - Own customer outcomes, staying engaged until solutions are live and stable - Partner with product and engineering teams to channel field insights into the platform roadmap - Produce clear technical documentation, runbooks, and maintainable hand-off packages - Debug and resolve complex integration issues alongside customer engineering teams
Requirements
- CS degree or equivalent practical experience - 3+ years of software engineering or technical consulting experience - Proficiency in multiple languages such as Python, Node.js, or Go - Strong API fluency, event-driven thinking, and cloud-native instincts - Exposure to SIP, WebRTC, or real-time voice and messaging systems - Ability to translate vague problem reports ("it's not working") into concrete root causes - Comfort working on customer sites and leading high-stakes technical conversations
Nice to have
- Experience with AI voice assistants, STT, or LLM-based conversational systems - SQL proficiency across Postgres, MySQL, or Oracle - ETL and data wrangling experience - DevOps fundamentals including Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD - Background in telecom, CPaaS, or high-growth SaaS - Security mindset covering IAM, encryption, and audit logging
