Role overview The Database Administrator will own the day-to-day operation of enterprise database systems spanning on-premises and cloud environments. The role centers on keeping platforms highly available, secure, and performant while partnering closely with engineering teams on schema design and data initiatives. It suits someone who enjoys hands-on operational work combined with longer-term planning and migration projects.
Responsibilities - Administer and maintain MSSQL Server and Azure SQL databases, ensuring availability, performance, and data integrity across production environments. - Monitor system health, diagnose bottlenecks, and tune queries to improve throughput and responsiveness. - Implement and audit security controls, including access management, encryption policies, and periodic security reviews. - Design and execute backup, restore, and disaster recovery procedures, validating them through routine testing. - Collaborate with application developers to shape schemas and data models that align with product requirements. - Support cross-environment migration projects, version upgrades, and consolidation efforts between on-premises and cloud platforms. - Respond to incidents and outages, performing root-cause analysis and implementing durable fixes. - Contribute to capacity planning, resource forecasting, and the documentation of configurations, procedures, and runbooks.
Requirements - Bachelor's degree in computer science or a closely related technical discipline is preferred. - At least three years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator in production environments. - Strong proficiency with MSSQL administration, including architecture, design principles, and query optimization. - Demonstrated experience in performance tuning, troubleshooting, and high-availability or replication setups. - Working knowledge of database security best practices and backup/recovery strategies. - Professional-level written and verbal English for daily collaboration. - Strong cross-functional collaboration and analytical problem-solving skills.
Nice to have - Certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or Oracle Database Administrator Certified Professional. - Familiarity with Oracle or PostgreSQL administration. - Experience with monitoring and observability tooling. - Background in regulated industries such as financial services or telecommunications.
