Job details
About this role
Role overview Take technical ownership of core parts of a production AI agent platform used across multiple product areas and interaction channels. On a small engineering team, you will design, build, and operate runtime capabilities end to end, while helping other product teams contribute domain tools, knowledge, and evaluations through well-defined interfaces.
Responsibilities - Develop and maintain runtime components for agent orchestration, tool execution and registration, memory, and context management. - Extend the evaluation system, including offline checks and online detection or judge evaluations based on production traces. - Operate the platform in production through observability, incident response, and reliability improvements. - Review product teams’ tool integrations and evaluations, and evolve the tool registry and drift-detection interface. - Design and implement compliance and legal requirements for the platform. - Write API specifications and design proposals, incorporate review, deliver changes, and support the systems you own in on-call rotation.
Requirements - At least five years building production backend systems, with strong Python, relational database, and cloud infrastructure experience. - Experience building LLM-powered systems in production, such as agent loops, tool-calling integrations, retrieval-augmented generation, or evaluation infrastructure. - A focus on operability, including compliance, tracing, evaluations, and mechanisms to disable risky behavior. - Ability to own a technical area with limited supervision, from written design through implementation and production support. - Strong written communication for design documents and code review across teams.
Nice to have - Experience with platform and product team collaboration, server-sent events or streaming, compliance-oriented engineering such as data minimization or auditability, or staff-level scope.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-first across the US and Alberta, with an optional office in Calgary. - Target annual salary of $205,000–$225,000 USD or $180,000–$200,000 CAD, subject to experience and expertise. - Equity, flexible vacation, paid sick and safe time, compassionate and voting leave, medical, dental, and vision coverage, plus life and disability insurance.
