Role overview
This is a remote, W-2 contract opportunity for an Autonomous Vehicle Test Engineer supporting a major technology company's autonomous driving program. The role focuses on test creation, quality analysis, and issue investigation for autonomous vehicle software systems. The engineer will partner closely with software and hardware engineering teams across multiple disciplines to help deliver a high-quality autonomous driving product.
Responsibilities
- Analyze issues reported from routine autonomous vehicle testing, including triage, root cause analysis, categorization, reporting, and documentation - Create and manage test suites, test configurations, and the infrastructure used to run tests - Investigate root causes of errors that produce inaccurate test results and improve overall test accuracy - Communicate with development teams to understand functional design and stay current on evolving technologies - Develop documentation and tooling that supports issue analysis workflows - Collect test data from in-car testing and share feedback on software performance with engineering teams
Requirements
- Technical education or background in Electrical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field - Proficiency with Python - Hands-on experience in test engineering within a robotics or automotive environment - Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with demonstrated ability to perform issue triage and root cause analysis - Self-motivated mindset with a willingness to learn new technologies and adapt in a fast-moving setting - Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across cross-functional engineering teams - Genuine passion for autonomous vehicle technology and software quality
Nice to have
- Software testing or development experience specific to autonomous vehicles or autonomous driving systems - Direct experience creating test suites or managing test infrastructure - Familiarity with vehicle data analysis, robotics testing, or automotive software validation - Ability to operate effectively across both software and hardware teams in a technical testing environment
Benefits and work setup
- W-2 full-time contract position, fully remote within the United States - Pay range of $70/hr to $97/hr, depending on factors such as experience, education, and location - Full benefits and PTO included
