Multigres Engineer

Role overview

This role advances an open-source distributed database system that brings horizontal scaling to Postgres. The engineer will architect and implement core infrastructure across sharding, consensus, replication, and materialization, working alongside database, networking, and infrastructure specialists. It is a fully remote position on an open-source-first, globally distributed team.

Responsibilities

- Design and implement query routing logic for sharded database deployments. - Build consensus and replication systems that support distributed durability. - Develop materialization pipelines for migrations and change data capture. - Contribute to connection pooling infrastructure and intelligent workload isolation. - Collaborate with the open-source community on ongoing distributed Postgres development.

Requirements

- Deep expertise in distributed databases and systems, including sharding, relational algebra, and Postgres internals. - Hands-on experience with consensus protocols such as Raft, Paxos, or FlexPaxos, and with distributed transactions. - Familiarity with stream processing, materialization, and change data capture. - A track record building robust, performant distributed systems with strong observability. - Experience with low-latency infrastructure and network protocol optimization.

Nice to have

- Prior contributions to open-source database or infrastructure projects. - Comfort working asynchronously across time zones in a remote-first environment.
