Remote job
Software Engineer, Metronome Infrastructure
Job details
About this role
Role overview Join the team building the core infrastructure that powers usage-based metering and billing for a large-scale platform. This engineering role focuses on the systems behind accurate event ingestion, aggregation, and rate computation that customers and internal product teams rely on every day. The work blends distributed systems design with the operational rigor needed to keep financial-adjacent pipelines reliable.
Responsibilities - Design and maintain services that ingest high-volume usage events and produce consistent metering outputs. - Build and optimize the data pipelines and storage layers that aggregate events into rated, billable quantities. - Improve the reliability, latency, and correctness of infrastructure that downstream billing and analytics depend on. - Partner with product and platform engineers to expose metering primitives that other teams can build against. - Participate in on-call rotations and incident response for the metering stack.
Requirements - Professional experience as a software engineer working on backend or infrastructure systems. - Proficiency in at least one backend language commonly used for data-heavy services. - Comfort designing distributed systems that handle large event volumes with strong consistency requirements. - Ability to debug production systems across service, data, and infrastructure boundaries. - Solid grasp of databases, stream processing, or batch processing concepts.
Nice to have - Prior work on metering, billing, or financial-grade infrastructure. - Experience with event-streaming platforms and time-series data stores.
Benefits and work setup - Remote-friendly role based in Canada, with hub locations in Toronto and Vancouver.
