Role overview
A backend engineer joins the payments organization to design, build, and operate the services that move money for customers. The role focuses on the reliability, correctness, and scalability of payment processing systems serving global users. The position is remote, based out of Canada with a Toronto hub.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement backend services and APIs that power payment flows such as authorization, capture, refunds, and payouts. - Improve the reliability, latency, and correctness of money-movement pipelines handling large transaction volumes. - Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and product teams to launch new payment methods and markets. - Investigate and resolve production incidents, including on-call rotations for payment-critical systems. - Write well-tested, maintainable code and contribute to engineering best practices across the team.
Requirements
- Professional experience building production backend systems, ideally in Go, Java, Ruby, or a comparable language. - Solid understanding of distributed systems, data modeling, and transactional consistency. - Familiarity with payments concepts such as PCI compliance, fraud, or financial integrations is welcome. - Comfort working remotely and partnering across time zones.
Nice to have
- Prior experience at a payments processor, fintech, or another high-availability financial platform.
