Remote job
Senior Staff, AI Data Engineer
Job details
About this role
Role overview This is a senior staff-level role leading how AI reshapes analytics and reporting, paired with responsibility for the underlying data architecture. You will own strategy, tooling, and architecture for AI-driven analytics end-to-end, while shaping how warehouse models evolve to support both human analysts and autonomous agents. The unifying goal is compressing time-to-insight and raising the quality of the insights themselves.
Responsibilities - Set the strategy for how AI reshapes analytics, reporting, and self-serve data access: where it goes first, what it replaces, and what it unlocks. - Lead tool selection, administration, and architecture across AI analytics surfaces, including Claude on a cloud warehouse, MCP servers, skills, agent workflows, and IDE integrations. - Design evaluation and guardrail systems that catch regressions before they ship and build team confidence in agent output for high-stakes reporting. - Define how analytics use cases get proposed, governed, and shipped so AI access to data stays both impactful and controlled. - Debug complex failures, including cases that look like LLM problems but are actually data modeling, metadata, or system-design issues. - Work alongside analytics engineers to extend dbt and Snowflake models, with attention to structure, grain, and documentation that agents need for accuracy. - Lead the semantic and context layers, including metric definitions, business context, and metadata for dashboards and agents. - Mentor analytics engineers, analysts, and other engineers on AI-assisted analytics practices.
Requirements - 8+ years across data platform, ML platform, or developer tooling, including time as the senior technical voice for a major data, ML, or AI surface. - Production experience architecting LLM systems: agents, evals, RAG, MCP, tool use, multi-step workflows, and their failure modes. - Strong dbt plus cloud-warehouse chops (Snowflake preferred), with strong opinions about semantic layers and metadata. - Track record of driving wide-team consensus on technical direction, not just shipping code. - Comfort working alongside analysts and analytics engineers while setting standards for models, metrics, tests, documentation, and lineage.
Nice to have - Experience in a regulated industry such as healthcare, financial services, or gaming. - Open-source contributions or external writing/speaking on AI and analytics.
Benefits and work setup - Medical, dental, and vision benefits. - Flexible PTO plus universal paid family and caregiver leave. - Gym membership benefit, pre-tax commuter benefits, and FSA plans. - Sponsored primary care and bike-share memberships, plus medical travel benefits. - Flexible lifestyle spending account, stock options, and a 401k matching program. - Regular company-sponsored social events for both in-office and remote employees, plus sponsored lunches at the New York headquarters. - Equal opportunity employer with an explicit commitment to building a diverse team.
