Role overview
A staff-level embedded software engineering role on the firmware team for an autonomous trucking platform. The work centers on real-time embedded software that bridges sensors, actuators, compute modules, and the base vehicle, forming the foundation of safe and intelligent operation. This is a technical leadership role focused on safety-critical systems in demanding, real-world environments.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, modular, real-time embedded software architectures for the autonomous vehicle platform - Provide technical leadership, conduct code reviews, and mentor team members - Apply safety guidelines to build safety-critical software with robust fault handling - Coordinate tasks across the team to achieve on-time delivery - Support vehicle testing and field deployments, diagnosing and resolving embedded software issues in real-world scenarios
Requirements
- Expert-level proficiency in C++ for embedded systems development in safety-critical contexts - Strong understanding of RTOS concepts and programming (e.g., FreeRTOS, SafeRTOS) - Experience with safety-critical standards such as ISO 26262, DO-178C, IEC 61508, IEC 62304, or similar - Hardware abstraction layer (HAL) and BSP development experience - Multithreaded and real-time software design skills - Good understanding of CAN and Ethernet communication protocols, ideally in an automotive context - Track record of taking at least one product through to production and maintaining it with paying customers
