Job details
About this role
Role overview Contribute to a text-to-speech reading platform used by over 50 million people by leading the engineering behind its native Windows desktop client. This Senior Software Engineer position in Taipei focuses on architecting high-quality Windows applications while embedding accessibility into every layer of the product. The work sits inside a globally distributed team with no central office, so strong written communication and self-direction are essential.
Responsibilities - Drive the design and build of native Windows desktop applications using the Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when performance or platform needs require it. - Set and enforce best practices for code architecture, memory management, responsive UI, and compatibility across Windows 10 and Windows 11. - Lead accessibility engineering: integrate Windows accessibility APIs (such as Microsoft UI Automation), validate controls, focus order, keyboard navigation, and assistive-technology behavior. - Collaborate with designers, UX researchers, QA, and product stakeholders to plan features and define the long-term direction of the Windows experience. - Take end-to-end ownership of features through design, implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance. - Investigate and resolve complex performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, rendering glitches, and platform compatibility problems.
Requirements - 3+ years of hands-on Windows desktop development with Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar frameworks, C#, and XAML, plus exposure to C++ or Win32/WinRT/COM. - Solid grasp of Windows application architecture and the interop boundaries between managed .NET and native code. - History of shipping production desktop software that prioritizes reliability, performance, and maintainability. - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a strong inclusive-design mindset. - Strong computer science fundamentals: object-oriented design, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Track record mentoring engineers, leading technical design, reviewing code, and making architectural decisions alongside cross-functional teams.
Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience across unit, integration, and UI automation layers. - Performance optimization for startup time, memory pressure, high-DPI rendering, and responsiveness under load. - Localization, right-to-left layout, and internationalization experience. - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop environments. - Experience shaping CI/CD pipelines and release strategies for desktop applications.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote, globally distributed team with no physical headquarters. - High-autonomy engineering culture where senior engineers define architecture and own outcomes end-to-end. - Opportunities to mentor and grow into broader technical leadership roles such as tech lead or architect. - Mission-driven product focus on building accessible software that helps people read and learn more effectively.
