Role overview Take ownership of native Windows desktop application development for a widely used text-to-speech reading platform. The position combines hands-on coding in C#, XAML, and C++ with architectural leadership and a strong emphasis on accessibility for users with disabilities.
Responsibilities - Lead the design and implementation of Windows desktop apps using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed. - Set and uphold engineering best practices around performance, memory, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility across Windows 10/11+. - Champion accessibility by integrating frameworks like Microsoft UI Automation and validating focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader behavior. - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to define the long-term Windows roadmap. - Own features end-to-end, from concept and design through release and ongoing maintenance. - Track down complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and rendering issues, and propose architectural solutions.
Requirements - 3+ years of experience building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, and XAML; comfort with native C++/Win32/WinRT/COM is a plus. - Strong grasp of Windows application architecture and .NET-to-native interop. - History of shipping production desktop software with attention to reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and inclusive software design. - Solid fundamentals in OOP, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and async programming. - Experience mentoring engineers, conducting design reviews, and guiding architectural decisions.
Nice to have - Building automated UI tests at unit, integration, and end-to-end levels. - Optimizing desktop apps for memory, startup time, rendering, high-DPI, and load responsiveness. - Localization, globalization, and right-to-left UI support. - Telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring tooling. - Designing CI/CD workflows and deployment strategies for desktop software. - Sustained ownership of feature areas including refactoring and tech debt reduction.
