About this role

Role overview Shape the Windows desktop experience for a text-to-speech reading platform relied on by more than 50 million users worldwide. Based in Kuala Lumpur, this Senior Software Engineer role combines architectural leadership with deep hands-on work in native Windows development and accessibility. The position is part of a fully distributed organization with no central office, so independent judgment and clear async communication are central to how the team operates.

Responsibilities - Own the architecture and development of native Windows desktop applications built on the Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed. - Establish and maintain engineering standards covering performance, memory, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11+ compatibility. - Drive accessibility work by integrating Windows accessibility APIs (such as Microsoft UI Automation) and validating focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen-reader behavior. - Work closely with designers, UX researchers, QA, and product to plan features, shape UI/UX direction, and influence the long-term Windows roadmap. - Carry features from initial concept through release and maintenance, diagnosing complex bugs, memory leaks, rendering issues, and platform-specific problems.

Requirements - 3+ years building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI or comparable frameworks, C#, and XAML; familiarity with C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM is highly valued. - Deep knowledge of Windows application architecture and managed-to-native interop patterns. - Demonstrated success shipping production desktop software that balances reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a strong commitment to inclusive software design. - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous or multi-threaded programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architectural decisions with cross-functional partners.

Nice to have - Building automated UI tests across unit, integration, and end-to-end layers. - Performance work on startup time, memory footprint, high-DPI rendering, and app responsiveness under load. - Localization, right-to-left UI, and internationalization experience. - Telemetry, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop apps. - Designing CI/CD pipelines and release strategies for desktop software.

Benefits and work setup - Fully remote organization with roughly 200 people working across regions and no physical headquarters. - Flat engineering culture that treats senior engineers as builders and decision-makers. - Mentorship and growth opportunities toward tech lead and architect roles. - Purpose-driven mission focused on removing barriers to reading through accessible, user-centered software.
