Role overview
This senior engineering position drives the development of native Windows desktop applications for a popular text-to-speech reading platform serving over 50 million users globally. The role combines deep technical work on architecture and coding with leadership responsibilities across the full product lifecycle, all within a fully remote engineering organization. A defining focus is building accessible, performant, and inclusive desktop software that integrates with a broader multi-platform reading suite.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design, architecture, and implementation of native Windows apps using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ as needed. - Set and uphold engineering standards covering code architecture, performance, memory efficiency, responsive UI, and cross-version compatibility on Windows 10/11+. - Champion accessibility by integrating and validating Windows accessibility APIs, ensuring strong screen-reader support, keyboard navigation, and focus management. - Take ownership of features from initial concept and design through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance. - Collaborate closely with product, design, UX research, and QA stakeholders to shape the Windows platform roadmap. - Investigate and resolve complex bugs, performance regressions, memory leaks, rendering issues, and platform compatibility problems.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience developing Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI or similar, C#, and XAML. - Solid understanding of Windows internals, including native code in C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM, and interop with managed .NET code. - Demonstrated success shipping production-grade desktop applications emphasizing reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability. - Significant hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and a commitment to inclusive software design. - Strong fundamentals in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and async or multi-threaded programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring peers, conducting thorough code reviews, and aligning cross-functional partners.
Nice to have
- Background writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, UI automation). - Track record of desktop performance tuning, including high-DPI support and responsiveness under load. - Familiarity with internationalization, localization, and right-to-left UI patterns. - Experience with telemetry, analytics, logging, crash reporting, and error monitoring. - Exposure to shaping CI/CD pipelines and release workflows for desktop software. - Comfort owning modules long-term, including maintenance, refactoring, and addressing technical debt.
