About this role

Role overview A senior software engineer is needed to lead native Windows desktop application development for a text-to-speech reading platform used by over 50 million people. It sits inside a fully distributed engineering organization with no physical office.

Responsibilities - Architect and build Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed - Establish engineering best practices for performance, memory management, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11 compatibility - Champion accessibility by integrating Windows accessibility APIs, supporting screen readers, keyboard navigation, and focus management - Partner with product, design, UX research, and QA to shape the Windows roadmap and feature planning - Own features end-to-end from conception through release and ongoing maintenance - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, memory leaks, rendering issues, and performance bottlenecks

Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop development with WinUI or similar frameworks, plus C#, XAML, and ideally C++/Win32/WinRT - Deep understanding of .NET-managed and native code interop - Track record of shipping production-grade desktop applications at scale - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs and inclusive design - Strong fundamentals in OOP, design patterns, data structures, memory management, and async or multi-threaded programming - Demonstrated technical leadership including mentoring, code reviews, and architecture decisions - Excellent communication skills and a user-centric mindset

Nice to have - Automated UI testing experience across unit, integration, and UI automation suites - Performance optimization expertise for memory, startup, rendering, and high-DPI scenarios - Localization, globalization, and right-to-left UI support - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, and error monitoring tooling - Experience shaping CI/CD pipelines and release workflows for desktop software

Benefits and work setup - High-impact role defining architecture for a product used by millions - Collaborative, flat engineering culture with autonomy over technical decisions - Growth path toward tech lead or architect roles - Fully remote, 100% distributed team - US-based salary range of $140,000-$200,000 plus bonus and equity, depending on experience
