Senior Software Engineer, Windows/Desktop Applications - Fresno, CA, USA
Job details
About this role
Role overview
This position focuses on building native Windows desktop applications using modern frameworks such as the Windows App SDK and WinUI. The role combines hands-on engineering with technical leadership, setting architectural direction and shipping features end to end for a product used at scale. It is a senior individual contributor role with significant influence on the Windows platform's roadmap and on engineering quality standards across the codebase.
Responsibilities
- Design, architect, and develop native Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI (or comparable UI frameworks), C#, XAML, and C++ when needed. - Establish and maintain engineering best practices for Windows desktop development, including performance, memory usage, responsive UI, cross-version compatibility across Windows 10/11+, and long-term maintainability. - Drive accessibility initiatives by integrating platform accessibility APIs, validating focus management, keyboard navigation, screen-reader support, and inclusive UI patterns. - Partner closely with product designers, UX researchers, QA, and product stakeholders to plan features and shape the long-term Windows roadmap. - Own the full feature lifecycle from conception and design through implementation, testing, release, and ongoing maintenance. - Diagnose and resolve complex bugs, rendering issues, memory leaks, performance bottlenecks, and compatibility problems, proposing robust architectural fixes.
Requirements
- Three or more years of professional experience building Windows desktop applications with Windows App SDK, WinUI (or similar), C#, and XAML, plus working knowledge of native code such as C++, Win32, WinRT, or COM. - Deep understanding of Windows application architecture and managed-to-native interop on .NET. - Demonstrated track record of shipping production-quality desktop software with attention to reliability, scalability, and performance. - Hands-on experience with Windows accessibility APIs (for example, Microsoft UI Automation or equivalents) and a commitment to inclusive design. - Strong software engineering fundamentals, including object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, algorithms, memory management, and asynchronous programming. - Experience leading technical design, mentoring engineers, conducting code reviews, and making architecture-level decisions. - Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate tradeoffs and build consensus across teams. - User-centric mindset focused on polished, intuitive experiences.
Nice to have
- Experience writing automated UI tests (unit, integration, and UI automation) using relevant testing frameworks. - Background in desktop performance optimization, including startup time, memory footprint, high-DPI rendering, and responsiveness. - Familiarity with localization, right-to-left UI support, internationalization, and accessibility across multiple regions. - Comfort with telemetry, analytics, crash reporting, logging, and error monitoring in desktop applications. - Hands-on work shaping CI/CD workflows, release pipelines, and deployment strategies for desktop software.
Benefits and work setup
- High-impact role with direct influence over the architecture and future direction of the Windows product. - Collaborative, flat engineering culture that treats senior engineers as builders and decision-makers. - Opportunities to mentor, steer technical direction, and grow toward tech lead or architect responsibilities. - Fully remote, distributed work environment with high autonomy and end-to-end feature ownership. - US-based compensation: $140,000–$200,000 USD per year, plus bonus and equity, depending on experience.
