About this role

Role overview A senior engineer will lead native Windows desktop development for a widely used text-to-speech reading platform serving tens of millions of users. The position pairs deep technical leadership with architectural responsibility and a strong commitment to accessibility. It is part of a globally distributed engineering team with no central office.

Responsibilities - Design and implement Windows desktop applications using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ where appropriate - Set coding standards and architectural patterns for performance, memory use, responsive UI, and cross-version Windows support - Drive accessibility initiatives, including Windows UI Automation integration, screen reader support, keyboard navigation, and focus handling - Work closely with product designers, UX researchers, and QA to plan features and shape the Windows platform roadmap - Carry features from initial concept through design, implementation, testing, release, and long-term maintenance - Investigate and resolve complex defects, memory leaks, rendering problems, and performance bottlenecks

Requirements - At least three years building Windows desktop apps with WinUI or comparable frameworks, using C# and XAML; C++/Win32/WinRT a plus - Strong grasp of Windows application architecture, including managed (.NET) and native code interop - History of delivering reliable, scalable production desktop software - Practical experience with Windows accessibility APIs and inclusive design principles - Solid foundation in object-oriented design, design patterns, data structures, memory management, and concurrency - Prior technical leadership experience mentoring engineers, reviewing code, and making architecture calls - Clear communication and a user-first product mindset

Nice to have - Background writing unit, integration, or UI automation tests for desktop interfaces - Expertise optimizing startup time, memory footprint, rendering performance, and high-DPI behavior - Experience with localization, internationalization, and right-to-left layouts - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Track record building CI/CD pipelines and release processes for desktop products
