About this role

Role overview A senior software engineer will own the technical direction of Windows desktop applications powering a text-to-speech reading platform used by tens of millions of people. The role centers on architecture, accessibility, and shipping polished desktop experiences within a fully distributed engineering organization. The position involves close collaboration with product, design, and research counterparts.

Responsibilities - Lead architecture and development of native Windows desktop apps using Windows App SDK, WinUI, C#, XAML, and C++ when needed - Codify best practices for code structure, performance, memory management, responsive UI, and Windows 10/11 compatibility - Advance accessibility work by integrating Windows accessibility APIs, validating UI controls, focus management, keyboard navigation, and screen reader behavior - Collaborate with product designers, UX researchers, and QA on feature planning, UI/UX architecture, and platform roadmap - Take ownership of the full feature lifecycle from ideation through release and ongoing support - Track down complex bugs, performance bottlenecks, memory leaks, and rendering issues, then propose durable fixes

Requirements - 3+ years of Windows desktop development with WinUI or similar, plus C# and XAML; native C++/Win32/WinRT experience preferred - Deep knowledge of Windows application architecture and managed-to-native interop - Demonstrated success shipping production desktop software with attention to reliability and scalability - Strong accessibility API experience and commitment to inclusive software design - Solid engineering fundamentals covering OOP, design patterns, data structures, memory management, and asynchronous programming - Proven ability to lead technical design, mentor peers, conduct reviews, and drive architecture decisions - Strong written and verbal communication, with cross-team collaboration skills

Nice to have - Experience building automated UI test suites (unit, integration, UI automation) - Performance tuning for memory, startup, rendering, and high-DPI displays - Localization, globalization, and right-to-left interface support - Familiarity with telemetry, crash reporting, and error monitoring in desktop apps - Background defining CI/CD pipelines and desktop release workflows
