Senior Software Engineer, Core Experiences - Boise, ID, USA
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Develop the core services and cross-platform SDKs that support an audio reading product for web articles, documents stored in the cloud, and books. The role blends product collaboration, backend engineering, API design, and system optimization, with a focus on making the overall experience clearer and more dependable. This Boise-based opportunity is associated with a remote, high-growth engineering team and an asynchronous way of working.
Responsibilities
- Work alongside product groups to define attainable project scopes and accelerate the path to customer feedback. - Balance SDK integration needs against user-experience considerations and deliver cross-platform solutions. - Refine existing capabilities for faster loading and smarter parsing by simplifying abstractions and improving algorithms. - Create and operate Kotlin-based cloud functions, small backend services, and scheduled or background jobs.
Requirements
- Take a whole-system view when addressing architectural, performance, or product tradeoffs. - Demonstrate strong judgment about speed and sequencing: produce options quickly, then commit to what is practical to release. - Stay productive and self-directed while flexing between collaboration and concentrated individual work. - Communicate and negotiate effectively with opinionated stakeholders across design, marketing, and product management.
Nice to have
- Production experience with Kotlin Multiplatform. Experience in Java is relevant, although direct Kotlin Multiplatform familiarity is preferred. - Previous work with Google Cloud Platform.
Benefits and work setup
- Participate in a fast-growing organization where engineers can help shape technical and product decisions. - Operate within an entrepreneurial culture that supports initiative, intuition, and calculated risk. - Benefit from a hands-off management style designed to preserve engineering focus and autonomy. - The United States salary range is $140,000–$200,000 per year, plus bonus and stock eligibility, with compensation varying by experience. - Work asynchronously in a friendly, laid-back environment on software intended to help millions of people access written information, including users with diverse learning and accessibility needs.
