About this role
Role overview A Senior Integration Engineer will serve as a technical owner of a healthcare integration platform that processes high volumes of clinical data across hospital customers. The role combines hands-on HL7v2 interface development, platform administration, and senior-level production support for a mission-critical, cloud-hosted environment.
Responsibilities - Design, build, test, deploy, and support healthcare integrations end-to-end, including routes, communication endpoints, filters, transformations, mappings, and connectivity, primarily in HL7v2 across major EHR platforms. - Act as a technical owner and subject matter expert for the integration platform, handling configuration, administration, monitoring, upgrades, and production operations. - Partner with Infrastructure and Security to operate the platform in a cloud-hosted environment, covering networking, VPN connectivity, TLS/certificate management, HTTPS endpoints, and secure customer connections. - Maintain reliability and availability through proactive monitoring, safe change practices, capacity planning, and performance work as message volumes grow. - Define and roll out integration best practices, including reusable components, configuration standards, testing, change review, environment promotion, deployment procedures, and operational documentation. - Serve as a senior escalation point for production issues, leading troubleshooting, root cause analysis, message recovery and reprocessing, and durable remediation across the platform, HL7, connectivity, infrastructure, and external systems. - Participate in an after-hours on-call rotation for high-priority incidents, with a focus on rapid recovery and minimizing customer impact, and serve as a technical point of contact for support cases, capacity planning, and escalations.
Requirements - 4+ years of healthcare integration experience building, deploying, and supporting hospital-based HL7v2 interfaces at scale. - Deep hands-on expertise building integrations from scratch within enterprise healthcare interface engines, including routes, endpoints, filters, connectors, transformations, mappings, reusable components, administration, monitoring, and troubleshooting. - Experience owning or administering an interface engine in production, including configuration, monitoring, deployment, message recovery, troubleshooting, and operational support. - Expert-level HL7v2 knowledge covering message structure, common message types and trigger events, acknowledgements, transformations, sequencing, and error handling. - Strong JavaScript experience for message transformation and workflow logic; working SQL proficiency for validation, troubleshooting, and operational analysis. - Experience supporting high-volume, mission-critical integration platforms in AWS or a similar cloud environment, with strong understanding of TCP/IP, MLLP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS certificates, DNS, firewalls, VPNs, and secure connectivity.
Nice to have - Experience operating enterprise healthcare interface engines in a SaaS or hosted model and working directly with platform vendors. - Deep knowledge of hospital workflows, clinical data structures, EHR integration patterns, and revenue cycle data flows. - Familiarity with SFTP, flat files, X12, REST APIs, SOAP web services, FHIR, and multiple interface engines such as Mirth Connect, Cloverleaf, Corepoint, or InterSystems. - Background with automated testing, CI/CD, configuration management, repeatable environment promotion, capacity planning, and performance tuning of high-throughput integration environments.
Benefits and work setup - Fully remote within the US. - Base salary of $185K-$215K plus bonus potential, with medical, dental, and vision coverage (plans covering around 75% of premiums), up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave, unlimited PTO plus 11 holidays, a 401(k) with a 4% match, and a fast-moving, low-bureaucracy environment.
