Database Developer

Role overview

This position supports a federal healthcare data program that distributes information to researchers studying ways to improve care for chronically ill Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries. The Database Developer works on a chronic conditions data warehouse, ingesting new sources, building views that integrate datasets, and keeping production operations reliable. The work is performed in a government contractor context and supports CMS-aligned research and policy innovation.

Responsibilities

- Ingest new data sources into the chronic conditions data warehouse, expanding access to healthcare data for research use. - Build, optimise, and maintain data views that integrate new and existing datasets with a focus on accuracy, clarity, and usability for analysts and researchers. - Design and support ETL workflows in a cloud data warehouse such as Snowflake, ensuring reliability and scalability of data loading operations. - Support production operations, including rotation-based responsibilities for ETL loads that may run off-hours or on weekends. - Document processes and business logic to create reliable technical references for audits, troubleshooting, and onboarding. - Collaborate with data analysts, technical leads, and program partners to align data structures with end-user needs and proactively resolve database or performance issues.

Requirements

- Bachelor's degree in data science, computer science, information systems, or a related field. - 2+ years of experience as a Database Developer, ideally in a government or healthcare setting. - Hands-on experience with SQL, Python, ETL development, and Snowflake data warehouse concepts. - Understanding of data management best practices including permissions, recovery, security, and monitoring. - Familiarity with front-end requirements and the ability to translate business needs into backend solutions. - Knowledge of development tools such as the .NET Framework, JavaScript, HTML, and Oracle, plus strong communication and a proactive problem-solving attitude.

Nice to have

- Prior experience supporting CMS or similar federal health data programs. - Experience with Snowflake or other modern cloud-based data warehouses. - Exposure to AI or machine learning techniques for data quality and anomaly detection.
