Senior/Staff Data Scientist (ACF)
Job details
About this role
Role overview Use data to help public-sector program and technology leaders answer complex questions and make informed decisions. The work spans data ingestion, processing, and visualization, with occasional predictive modeling; it also includes building small tools and automations when those are a better fit than a formal analytics solution. Much of the work is consulting-oriented and may begin with an ambiguous request.
Responsibilities - Work directly with senior and program stakeholders to clarify questions, investigate them, and communicate useful findings. - Prepare data from varied sources and build pipelines and data visualizations for grants and program information. - Analyze structured and unstructured data to identify patterns, trends, and opportunities. - Create AI agents and integrate them into workflows, checking that their outputs are useful and reliable. - Build lightweight tools, prototypes, or automations using AI and low-code platforms when appropriate. - Collaborate with product, design, engineering, and other specialists; develop models when the problem calls for them.
Requirements - Ability to use data strategically: frame questions, surface opportunities, and inform decisions. - Familiarity with data engineering practices, including cleaning and preprocessing data from multiple sources. - Ability to select analytical methods and build credible, accessible statistical models. - Careful handling of privacy and security during analysis. - Strong communication of data, models, and recommendations to technical and nontechnical audiences. - Experience with visualization and cross-functional iterative delivery; willingness to build lightweight tools and automations.
Nice to have - Interest or experience in public policy, public health, human services, grants management, or large unstructured datasets.
Benefits and work setup Full-time, exempt, and fully remote, with travel potentially required once or twice a year. Benefits include health coverage, a 401(k) match, flexible paid time off and holidays, parental leave, performance rewards, and annual professional development and technology allowances.
