About this role
Role overview Provide bioinformatics and scientific computing support for research teams working with genomic and clinical data, with a particular focus on HIV studies. You will consult on study design and analysis, build and maintain production workflows for diverse sequencing and other biological datasets, and help develop scalable research computing resources. The role combines hands-on analysis, collaboration with investigators, and contributions to scientific publications.
Responsibilities - Advise researchers on experimental and statistical design for genome-scale studies, data mining, and automated analysis workflows. - Analyze genomic and clinical data, including sequencing, expression, variant, proteomic, and epigenomic datasets; interpret results in their biological context. - Develop, operate, and troubleshoot high-throughput pipelines and provide programming support for research data dissemination. - Collaborate with scientists on analysis and experimental design, and contribute to peer-reviewed manuscripts. - Help build flexible resources for sequencing analysis, computational and structural biology, and machine learning support.
Requirements - Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field; a master’s or doctorate is preferred. - At least 4 years of bioinformatics experience, including 2 or more years developing and maintaining production pipelines. - Expert proficiency in at least two of Python, R, C/C++, or shell scripting, and in one of Snakemake, Nextflow, or CWL/WDL. - Experience building container images with Docker, Podman, or Singularity/Apptainer, and developing pipelines on on-premises high-performance computing infrastructure. - Strong next-generation sequencing analysis skills across data such as whole-exome, whole-genome, RNA-seq, and ChIP-seq, using long- and short-read technologies. - Demonstrated ability to document tools and workflows for technical and user audiences; ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust clearance.
Nice to have - HIV or infectious disease research experience, including viral sequence analysis and integration with host genomic, transcriptomic, or immunologic data. - Cloud pipeline or application development, experience with a listed web or application framework, or work in a laboratory setting.
