Distinguished Software Engineer, AI
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Help establish how a software engineering organization builds and ships production code with AI agents, while also delivering customer-facing AI features. This senior technical role combines experimentation on real codebases with the creation of tools, evaluation methods, and engineering practices that improve reliability, security, and team-wide adoption. The team and its scope will evolve as the approach matures.
Responsibilities - Run agent-assisted development workflows against production code and identify where they succeed or fail. - Build tooling, guardrails, evaluations, and review practices that make agent-generated changes safer to ship. - Design systems that account for agent-written code and define appropriate points for human review. - Deliver product changes and AI-powered features, including agent workflows, model integrations, and automation for security insights. - Own work from design through deployment and ongoing monitoring, considering reliability, security, latency, cost, and output quality. - Review architecture and code, share findings across engineering, support adoption, and contribute to hiring.
Requirements - 10+ years building and shipping production software, with a record of setting direction and delivering high-impact work. - Strong computer science and system design fundamentals, including experience designing and operating distributed cloud systems. - Extensive hands-on use of AI coding tools on real codebases, with clear judgment about their strengths and limits. - Experience building with LLMs, including agents, tool use, evaluation, and prompt or context design. - Proficiency in TypeScript and strong backend engineering skills; familiarity with AWS is preferred. - Experience with CI/CD, containers, and production deployment, plus clear communication and comfort working through ambiguity.
Nice to have - Experience with Go, Docker, Kubernetes, Terraform, ClickHouse, or PostgreSQL.
Benefits and work setup - Remote role open to candidates in the United States, Canada, and Latin America. - Country-specific compensation and benefits may include stock options, health coverage, flexible time off, parental leave, and tuition reimbursement.
