Senior Software Engineer (Full-Stack, AI/RAG)

Role overview

A foundational engineering role at a small, fast-moving startup building an AI-powered platform that helps B2B SaaS companies complete vendor security questionnaires — including SIG, CAIQ, and custom formats — in hours rather than weeks. The platform uses retrieval-augmented generation grounded in each customer's own policies to draft answers with citations, addressing the hallucination risk that makes general-purpose LLMs unsuitable for compliance work. The hire will shape the product, technology, and engineering culture from very early days.

Responsibilities

- Own end-to-end feature development, from technical design through deployment and ongoing monitoring. - Architect and improve the RAG pipeline, including embeddings, retrieval quality, citation accuracy, and prompt engineering. - Build core product surfaces in a Next.js, TypeScript, and Prisma stack — covering the questionnaire workspace, document vault, billing, and admin tooling. - Lead technical decisions on data modeling, AI model selection, infrastructure, and developer tooling. - Mentor junior engineers through code reviews, pairing, and raising the team's engineering bar. - Engage directly with customers to understand pain points and inform product direction. - Own production reliability, including alerts, a light on-call rotation, and incident response.

Requirements

- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience. - Strong full-stack skills with TypeScript, modern React/Next.js, and a relational database such as PostgreSQL or SQLite. - Hands-on experience building LLM-based applications using OpenAI, Anthropic, or open-source models, including prompt design and evaluation. - Experience operating at least one production RAG system, covering embeddings, vector search, document chunking, and citation tracking. - Comfort owning a product surface end-to-end without supervision. - Strong written communication, including the ability to author technical design documents the team can act on.

Nice to have

- Background in security, compliance, or GRC tooling. - Production experience with Stripe billing, OAuth providers, and multi-tenant data isolation. - Experience evaluating model output quality with structured evaluation harnesses. - Open-source contributions or a public technical blog. - Prior early-stage startup experience (Seed through Series A).
