Director of Data and Analytics
Job details
About this role
Role overview
Build and lead a centralized data and analytics function from the ground up. The role owns the full data lifecycle, replacing fragmented reporting with trusted platforms, governed metrics, reusable analytical assets, and decision-ready insights for business leaders, executives, and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities
- Architect the data warehouse, cloud environment, ingestion pipelines, data models, semantic layer, and business intelligence infrastructure. - Establish governance, metric definitions, and lineage so company KPIs are consistent, discoverable, and suitable for audit or executive review. - Create reliable reporting and analytical products for operational teams, executives, boards, and investors. - Translate business questions into technical implementation plans and explain technical constraints or findings in commercially useful terms. - Partner across finance, sales, engineering, and other functions to align competing data needs without creating workarounds or unnecessary process friction. - Set direction for a zero-to-one analytics capability and take ownership for measurable outcomes in an ambiguous, build-oriented environment.
Requirements
- At least 8 years in data, analytics, or business intelligence, including 3 or more years leading a function, team, or company-wide initiative. - Demonstrated experience creating an analytics capability where little or no centralized infrastructure previously existed. - Advanced SQL and hands-on experience designing modern data stacks, including cloud warehouses, transformation frameworks, ingestion tools, semantic layers, and BI platforms. - Working knowledge of SaaS and financial metrics such as recurring revenue, retention, acquisition cost, payback, gross margin, and cohort performance. - Experience producing accurate reporting for executives, boards, or investors. - Ability to design practical governance frameworks and communicate effectively with both technical and business audiences.
Nice to have
Experience in a scaling B2B software or technology company; familiarity with mixed subscription, government-contracting, and professional-services revenue; or proficiency in Python or R for analysis beyond SQL.
