Senior Engineering Manager, Product Engineering

Role overview The Senior Engineering Manager will head product engineering at a European leader in automated security compliance, helping small and mid-market businesses achieve standards such as ISO 27001, GDPR, TISAX, and SOC 2 in weeks rather than months. The role blends hands-on engineering with people leadership, owning technical decisions and team velocity for a group of roughly eight engineers and two product designers, scaling toward about sixteen within a year. Success means raising the bar on shipping speed, product quality, and AI-enabled engineering practices across the team.

Responsibilities - Ship a meaningful product feature with AI tooling in the first month to establish credibility and stay close to the codebase - Identify and remove bottlenecks in tooling, code review, testing, and task allocation so feature timelines shrink without losing quality - Run regular one-on-ones focused on weekly output, code quality, and how engineers integrate AI into their workflow - Own the engineering hiring process end to end, designing technical challenges and making calls without oversight - Define how the team builds, including testing standards, code review and security practices, and team structure - Set technical direction and pace, partnering with leadership on architecture decisions and product taste

Requirements - Eight or more years as a software engineer, including four or more years managing a team of eight or more and running hiring yourself - Production experience shipping AI features such as retrieval, RAG, or agentic workflows, with judgment about what survives contact with real customer data - Strong product taste and a habit of flagging when shipped work is not good enough, even when it lands on time - Hands-on experience building with AI coding tools such as Claude Code and Cursor in real production environments - Background as a senior or principal engineer before moving into management, comfortable in design reviews and debugging - Able to work in European time zones (CET/CEST), ideally based in EMEA such as Germany or the UK

Nice to have - Scaled engineering teams to twenty or more at a venture-backed startup - Managed tech leads or a second-layer manager - Prior experience at a fully remote company
