Staff Product Design Engineer

Role overview

Drive the industrial design, product architecture, and engineering of one or more connected hardware products from early concept through mass production. This staff-level role combines hands-on product development with customer-informed design, using operational data and direct observation of real-world equipment and work environments. You will make cross-functional tradeoffs that balance functionality, cost, installation, usability, and aesthetics while helping bring durable products to market.

Responsibilities

- Lead product design and engineering from concept development through production launch. - Define industrial design direction, product architecture, and detailed design decisions. - Use product and operational data to inform design priorities and improve customer outcomes. - Build practical understanding of customer environments by observing equipment and field use. - Partner with Product Management, electrical and firmware engineering, program management, and hardware leadership. - Coordinate with operations, supply chain, external laboratories, design partners, and manufacturing resources.

Requirements

- Extensive experience designing and engineering physical products through mass production. - Strong understanding of industrial design, mechanical or product architecture, and hardware development. - Ability to make balanced decisions across functionality, cost, installation, usability, and appearance. - Comfortable working hands-on with products, equipment, and real-world customer environments. - Proven ability to lead technically complex work across product, engineering, manufacturing, and supply-chain partners. - Strong communication and collaboration skills appropriate for a staff-level technical role.
