Role overview

The company operates a dynamic rendering SaaS platform that helps search engines crawl JavaScript-heavy websites while preserving user experience. Serving over two billion pages to web crawlers annually, the platform is trusted by thousands of organizations and is evolving toward becoming the connective layer that makes the web legible to both search crawlers and emerging AI systems. The incoming Chief Technology Officer will lead that transformation, converting an infrastructure-focused engineering organization into a high-velocity, product-driven team that ships features with speed and intent.

Responsibilities

- Own the technology vision, roadmap, and engineering strategy, aligning technical work with business outcomes and customer value. - Embed AI-assisted development tooling across the workflow and uphold the quality bar for what it produces. - Drive architecture and infrastructure decisions with a holistic view of total cost, weighing maintenance burden and engineering opportunity cost alongside hosting spend. - Operate a multi-region, Kubernetes-based render fleet with discipline around cost per render, reliability, and operational hygiene. - Lead a security and compliance program that maintains SOC 2 Type II and pursues ISO 27001 certification, with named owners, current vendor and auditor contacts, and no single point of failure. - Coach and grow a small senior engineering team of roughly seven, fostering ownership, inclusion, and a culture where engineers carry decisions through. - Manage the full R&D budget, maintain an infrastructure cost model, and partner with the CEO and product leadership on company strategy.

Requirements

- 10+ years in software engineering with 5+ years in senior engineering leadership (VP, Director, or CTO) at a SaaS company. - Strong infrastructure background with experience running large-scale distributed systems and production Kubernetes, including strategic tradeoffs between cost, maintenance, and engineering velocity. - Demonstrated ability to embed AI tooling into engineering workflows and multiply team productivity while protecting review standards as output volume grows. - Proven track record of coaching, mentoring, and developing engineering teams through a significant transformation. - History of raising team delivery speed sustainably, with the measurement and process discipline that keeps it elevated long after the initial push. - Experience owning security and compliance in a SaaS environment (SOC 2, ISO 27001, or equivalent) as a continuing operational responsibility.
