Staff Data Scientist
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A staff data scientist is needed at a growth-stage company to turn raw data into insights, models, and applications that shape strategy, fuel growth, and improve customer experience. The role partners directly with senior leaders across sales, marketing, and product, applying both traditional analysis and machine learning to drive measurable change rather than producing descriptive decks.
Responsibilities
- Architect optimization analyses and forecasts that help leaders pinpoint opportunities across growth, strategy, revenue, marketing, and product. - Design counterfactual analyses and A/B tests to enable data-driven evolution of UX, product features, and customer experience. - Build data applications that automate and accelerate sales and marketing processes. - Own projects end-to-end, from framing the business question through shipping the model to presenting recommendations. - Work atop a shared semantic layer and DBT models powering an AI-driven analytics stack, contributing reusable modeling patterns. - Create data science frameworks, templates, and guides that other practitioners can build on.
Requirements
- 7+ years of experience in data science in fast-moving business settings, with a track record of leading on ambiguous, high-stakes problems. - Hands-on experience with a modern cloud data stack, including Snowflake, DBT, and BI tools such as Sigma, Looker, Metabase, or Omni. - Strong SQL and statistical modeling skills, with a track record of building forecasting and causal inference models. - Comfort contributing to a shared semantic layer so the broader organization benefits from scalable data models. - Strong documentation and Git habits that enable others to build on the work. - Excellent communication and presentation skills, equally comfortable with executive audiences and hands-on analysis.
Benefits and work setup
- Compensation band of CAD $140,000–$160,000, with offers tailored to experience. - Mandatory first-week PTO, one Friday off per month, company-wide shutdown between Christmas and New Year, and flexible time off. - 80% employer-paid benefits in the U.S. and 100% employer-paid extended health and dental premiums in Canada, plus RRSP/401k match and a generous parental leave policy. - Annual company retreat, learning and development opportunities, home office setup stipend, internet and phone allowance, and a remote-first culture.
