Remote job
Senior Engineering Manager, Agent Platform & Growth
Job details
About this role
Role overview
A senior engineering manager is needed to lead two related teams shaping the first-touch experience for a developer cloud platform — one team focused on human signup, onboarding, and activation through the UI, and the other focused on giving AI agents equivalent programmatic access via APIs, CLI, SDK, and similar interfaces. The role blends people leadership with product and architectural decision-making, taking an already-forming organization through its next stage of growth. It sits at the intersection of growth engineering, developer experience, and the emerging category of agent-facing platforms.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow two teams covering human-facing onboarding/activation and agent-facing platform surfaces - Own the self-serve user journey roadmap, from first touch through activation, initial monetization, expansion, and graduation through product-qualified milestones - Drive the agent-facing side of the platform, building API-driven experiences that let AI agents integrate with and operate on the service - Partner closely with dedicated product and design leads to align roadmap with customer, growth, and platform objectives - Hire, develop, and retain engineers as both teams scale, preserving each team's distinct identity and focus area - Make key architectural and product tradeoffs, balancing long-term platform investment against iterative onboarding improvements - Build performance management and career development practices for a team that already includes senior individual contributors
Requirements
- Strong people-leadership skills, treated as the top priority for the role - Enough technical depth to review code, prototype, and contribute directly when useful - Comfort operating in ambiguity with an adaptable, growth-oriented mindset - Proven track record building and scaling more than one team, ideally growing a small group into a larger organization - Experience managing and developing senior engineers, including hiring and performance management - Ability to partner effectively with product and design counterparts without needing to fill those functions - Strong product instincts that connect engineering investment to growth and activation outcomes - Background that enables operating at startup pace, whether from a startup or a larger company
Nice to have
- Prior growth-focused engineering experience in onboarding, activation, or funnel optimization - Experience building developer- or agent-facing product surfaces, including integration with AI coding tools - Background in developer platforms or DevTools - Experience helping a team split or reorganize as it scales into multiple teams
Benefits and work setup
- Four weeks of paid vacation - Fourteen weeks of fully paid parental leave for all parents, with a supportive return plan - Long-term disability, life insurance, and 401(k) plans - Employer-paid medical coverage plus heavily subsidized dental and vision coverage for the employee and a dependent, with FSAs and HSAs available - Monthly lifestyle stipend for wellness, mental health, hobbies, and similar uses - Monthly cell phone and internet subsidy - Commuter benefits for Bay Area employees and home office stipends for remote employees - Continuous learning benefits and related support - Visa sponsorship is generally not available for new cases at this time
