Role overview
Create publication-ready maps, charts, and other visual communication products that explain conflict patterns, themes, and research findings. Working across a global, research-oriented environment, the specialist will turn complex datasets into accurate visual stories, improve visualization standards, and support digital communications, media responses, and outreach. The position is fully remote and combines independent production with close collaboration across research, regional, communications, and risk-focused teams.
Responsibilities
- Produce original maps, graphs, and visual narratives for regional, thematic, and global analysis outputs. - Transform complex datasets into clear, compelling, and factually accurate visual stories. - Apply and refine visualization guidelines, visual-analysis practices, and broader visual identity standards. - Research new visualization methods and software to improve the quality and relevance of published outputs. - Coordinate with regional experts and communications colleagues on research outputs, journalist requests, and external-facing materials. - Support outreach, internal meetings, reputation and reach assessment, and other coordination or communications work as needed.
Requirements
- Experience analyzing conflict or related political and social phenomena. - At least three years of experience working in a research environment. - Demonstrated experience with Tableau and GIS. - Master’s degree in political science, social sciences, geography, conflict studies, or a related field, or comparable relevant expertise. - Fluency in English, strong critical thinking, and excellent attention to detail. - Ability to collaborate under tight deadlines while also working autonomously and incorporating feedback.
Nice to have
- Familiarity with the organization’s conflict-event dataset. - Experience with additional data-analysis software or programming languages. - Strong writing and editing skills.
