Product Designer Specialist

Role overview

This remote contractor role is for a product design professional who can explain the reasoning behind design decisions with clarity and precision. The work focuses on producing analytical written content that helps improve how next-generation AI systems understand product design, user impact, constraints, and trade-offs. It is centered on design rationale, documentation, and critical analysis rather than creating visual assets.

Responsibilities

- Write structured analyses explaining product decisions, underlying rationale, and expected effects on users. - Review and critique product or design information, considering trade-offs, constraints, stakeholder needs, and business context. - Draft, edit, and improve design documentation, specifications, critiques, and case studies that emphasize process and reasoning. - Translate complex design methods and frameworks into clear language for readers without a technical or design background. - Compare alternative design solutions and describe their implications, decision points, and likely outcomes. - Work asynchronously with project stakeholders to clarify requirements and deliver agreed written materials.

Requirements

- At least three years of end-to-end product design experience, preferably involving web or mobile products. - Practical knowledge of design strategy, prototyping, and communicating the reasoning behind design choices. - Experience creating design documentation, product specifications, critiques, or detailed case studies. - Excellent analytical writing skills, including the ability to synthesize complex information into clear, useful conclusions. - Strong critical thinking and the ability to assess trade-offs in ambiguous or changing situations. - Professional-level written English and the ability to communicate effectively with non-technical audiences.

Nice to have

- Experience using Figma or comparable prototyping tools. - Education or professional experience from highly regarded institutions or organizations.
