Role overview Help protect a high-traffic community platform by leading engineering work on the defenses that keep the site safe, stable, and trustworthy. This staff-level position sits at the intersection of security, abuse prevention, and platform integrity, shaping the systems that detect and respond to threats at scale. The role combines hands-on technical leadership with cross-team influence on how defenses are designed across the product.
Responsibilities - Design and evolve detection and mitigation systems for abuse, fraud, and other adversarial behavior on the platform. - Lead architectural decisions for the site-defense stack, balancing correctness, latency, and operational cost. - Partner with security, trust and safety, and product teams to embed defensive capabilities into new and existing features. - Drive incident response and post-incident improvements for defense-related events. - Mentor engineers and raise the technical bar for defense-focused work across the organization.
Requirements - Substantial experience as a software engineer, including prior staff-level scope on production systems. - Deep knowledge of security, abuse prevention, or site-reliability engineering in a web-scale environment. - Strong programming skills and the ability to lead complex, cross-team technical projects. - Familiarity with detection pipelines, large-scale data analysis, or machine-learning-driven defense. - Track record of mentoring senior engineers and influencing technical direction.
Nice to have - Experience with threat modeling, red-teaming, or adversarial machine learning. - Background working on community or user-generated-content platforms.
